In 1986, I had the misfortune of being completely unaware that the most realistic post-apocalyptic role-playing game parody ever created had been published. Otherwise, I would have purchased it instead of having to resort to waiting years for my eBay saved search to bear results, only to have it snatched from my grasp by bidders with more money than sense when it finally came up for auction. The game of which I write is, of course, Creeks and Crawdads by Martin Costa.

Fortunately, there is a substitute thanks to post-apocalyptic reconstructionist Alexander Cherry. His version of Creeks and Crawdads utilizes something called the Impact System, and the whole project is described by him here. Not only that, this reanimated mockery of life as we will not get a chance to know it is available as a free PDF, which is a very considerate thing for someone to do for total strangers. So if, like me, you have an odd urge to get a glimpse of a future in which inept crustaceans rule the world or, more accurately, struggle for survival in the ashes of our civilization, then this is the game for you!
