The Lost Minis Wiki is an “open resource for identifying and cataloguing fantasy miniatures.” This is an excellent resource for collectors and admirers of miniature sculpture, but it could also be used as a practical resource for fantasy role-playing. Consider, if you will, a situation in which a GM is attempting to describe a monster or even a non-player character. A verbal description may or may not be enough, but if an illustration is unavailable, it will have to suffice unless there is or was a miniature created of the being in question. You needn’t own the miniature itself. All you need to do is print the image or, if you use a laptop computer at your gaming table, save the image or bookmark the page and display it during the encounter. It can also be used by players who like to inform others that “my character looks like this” when the actual miniature is lacking.

I learned of this site upon reading this entry of Jeff’s Gameblog.

The Lost Minis Wiki has been added to the Game Reference links page at Fudgery.net.

One of the games I have always found visually intriguing is Talislanta, the unconventional fantasy role-playing game written by Stephan Michael Sechi and illustrated by P.D. Breeding-Black (and others after the first edition). It is a game steeped in the alien and the exotic, and as such it has a richly detailed background, lending itself to comparisons to Empire of the Petal Throne or Skyrealms of Jorune. Talislanta has appeared in five different editions not including the d20 edition, and although there are no new editions on the horizon, the good news is that all of the official books are available as free PDFs that may be downloaded at Talislanta.com. This site is an excellent resource not only for official material, but for links to fan-created material as well. Adding to all of this utility, it is also a Web log.

Talislanta.com has been added to the Game Support links page at Fudgery.net

Optimum Skills for Fudge has been revised to reflect an emphasis on simplicity with regard to default skill levels. The default level and skill difficulty have been deleted from the individual entries and replaced with the following note at the end of the page:

In this revised list of skills, all skills have a default level of Poor and a skill difficulty of Average (with a beginning level of Mediocre) unless otherwise noted.

Exceptions to this rule include skills related to supernormal powers and superscience. In this list, they are indicated by an asterisk that leads to the following note:

* These skills have a default level of Nonexistent and a skill difficulty of Very Hard (with a beginning level of Terrible).

Lest anyone think I have abandoned my favorite hobby, I still have several Fudge projects in various stages of completion. Currently, I am attempting to finish One Robot…One Computer…One Spaceship. It is a work of pure folly, but sometimes one needs a bit of benign folly in one’s life. My conundrum of the moment is whether to include a complete character creation randomizer. It seems to be the least effective element in the game. I may have to jettison it.

Still awaiting further development are my unofficial adaptations of the original Star Trek and the original Doctor Who. These projects will be posted online before the end of this year.

My Fudge-based war game of plastic soldiers will probably be posted this year, but there are several glitches in the system I want to fix first.

My Secret Project, to which I may or may not have alluded in the past, remains a priority. What is the greatest obstacle to its release? A title.

Old School Renaissance material is on the horizon, too.

And that is a summary of the state of things for Fudgery.net and Fudgerylog at the dawn of 2011.

Specifically, the “All System” Catalyst series by Flying Buffalo Inc. has been added to Optimum Trait Conversions for Fudge.

More generally, I have deleted the bracketed number ranges that formerly indicated whether a higher or lower trait level should be chosen when one is confronted with translating a game that has fewer than seven trait levels into Fudge. In any choice between two trait levels, the default solution is to roll 1d6 and pick the lower trait if the result is 1-3 or the higher trait if the result is 4-6. (For clarification see Notes on Trait Conversions.)

My LiveJournal site is Mr. Cooper’s Journal, but perhaps of more interest to readers of this Web log is my Blogger site, which I have renamed Sphere of Annihilation to reflect my gaming roots. This question before me now is this: Do I post all of my forthcoming articles related to the “Old School Renaissance” in gaming to Sphere of Annihilation, or do I leave it as is and post such articles here? Or should I post them in both sites? Opinions and suggestions are welcome.
