GamingReport.com Apparently Kaput

Alas, GamingReport.com seems to have met its demise. There is information and speculation at OgreCave.com.
It wasn’t perfect, but it will be missed.

Dave Arneson, 1947-2009

Dave Arneson, born 1 October 1947 in Hennepin County, Minnesota, passed away on Tuesday, the 7th of April.
Arneson was the co-creator (with E. Gary Gygax, who passed away in March 2008) of Dungeons & Dragons, the first role-playing game.
As obituaries and history books (both written and yet to be written) will attest, Arneson’s place in [...]

On the Trail

One could argue that I do not need any more role-playing games in my life. I own 87. Most of the games I wish to acquire are out-of-print or nearly so, but there is one new role-playing game that has really captured my interest, Trail of Cthulhu (q.v.), published by Pelgrane Press. It is a [...]

Field of Glory Is Here

Somehow, I missed the arrival of Field of Glory, the ancient & medieval war game by Osprey Publishing, despite having reported its imminent release.

E. Gary Gygax, 1938-2008

E. Gary Gygax, born 27 July 1938 in Chicago, Illinois, passed away at his home in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin on Tuesday, the 4th of March. (Today is the day of his funeral.)
I will leave the writing of obituaries and the analysis of his cultural contributions to others for now. For the moment, Gentle Reader, I [...]

Monsterpocalypse

I just learned in this Dr. Rotwang article that Privateer Press will be releasing a collectible miniatures game inspired by Japanese giant monster movies: Monsterpocalypse. I do not ordinarily have any interest in collectible miniature games (preferring to know exactly what I am spending my meager earnings on), but I must confess this looks tempting. [...]

Firefly Games Site Up

It is no longer news per se, but since I posted the news that it was down, I ought to mention that the Firefly Games site has returned.
Reminder to self: Obtain Og: Unearthed Edition and Faery’s Tale; revisit Monster Island.
