Basic Attributes Revised

Optimum Attributes for Fudge, a brief article suggesting a possible set of default attributes that may be used whenever needed, has been significantly revised (and, I hope, improved). This will be the standard set of attributes for many of my current Fudge projects. It should be reassuringly familiar to most experienced role-players and immediately understandable [...]

Disbelieve It… or Not

Disbelieve it or not, I am working on my own old school retro-clone role-playing game, although it isn’t strictly a retro-clone, but rather one of those “What If” games of the type perfected in Mazes & Minotaurs and Encounter Critical. I probably won’t take it to the same extreme of pretending the game was really [...]

DriveThruRPG/RPGNow is offering a Doctors Without Borders Pakistan Flood Relief RPG bundle for donations of $25 until 25 October 2010.

Attributes via Mitigated Random Generation

The next time I referee Advanced Dungeons & Dragons 1st Edition, Dungeons & Dragons Basic/Expert Set, Labyrinth Lord, or OSRIC, I will be using the following rules for generating attribute scores for player characters: Method 1: Roll 4d6 (drop the lowest die) six times and assign to attributes as desired. Method 2: Roll 4d6 (drop [...]

Quandary

As some of my readers may know, I have two Web logs that are devoted to fulfilling two tasks each, which are a.) providing links to my main Web logs (Fudgerylog and Cuparia) when they are updated, and b.) enabling me to comment on Blogger and LiveJournal sites maintained by others. My LiveJournal site is [...]

Places to Go, People to Be, URLs to Update

I am not sure when it happened, but the esteemed role-playing Webzine Places to Go, People to Be has a new URL: http://ptgptb.org.

Minotaur Issue 8 Is Here (Since Last Month)

This is a late report, but Issue 8 of Minotaur (formerly known as Minotaur Quarterly) is now available as a free download on the Minotaur Quarterly page. Minotaur is a publication that supports Mazes & Minotaurs, the role-playing game of Greek-inspired mythology and heroic adventure (q.v.).

Miniature Review

Miniature Review is a Web log with news and interviews pertaining to miniatures and miniature war games. Photographs are plentiful. Enjoy.

One Comment Away from 10,000

Deleted, that is. I have just deleted Fudgerylog’s 9,999th spam comment. The mind boggles at how much higher this number would be if I did not have certain words blacklisted (meaning I never even see comments containing these words as they are automatically deleted).

Dispatch War Rocket AJAX

According to a Starship Combat News update from 14 August, Hydra Miniatures has released the rulebook for their retro-futurist spaceship war game, War Rocket. The product description states, “You can play a game of War Rocket with fleets of 10-20 ships in less than 90 minutes with minimal use of tokens and absolutely no paper [...]

Why Is It Difficult?

It is rather late to address a minor complaint about Fudge I first read in the now defunct Fudge List (even though I saw it raised several times), but I suspect the complaint is a perennial one and I would like to offer my viewpoint. The complaint is that Fudge expresses the concept of difficulty [...]

Painting Characters in Broad Strokes Part 2

In Part 1, I suggested a method for creating the supporting cast — whether player characters or non-player characters — in a Fudge game adapted from television shows or movies, but there is another method that has been part of the rules since the 1995 edition, and that is the Alternate Section on Character Creation [...]
